.Hajj is one of the five pillars of Islam and is a mandatory religious duty for Muslims who meet the necessary criteria of physical and financial ability. It is performed annually in the Islamic month of Dhu al-Hijjah in the holy city of Mecca, Saudi Arabia.

The Pillars of Hajj

The pillars of Hajj are essential rites that must be performed for the pilgrimage to be valid. These include:

  1. Ihram: Entering a state of spiritual purity by wearing special garments (two white seamless cloths for men, modest dress for women) and making the intention (niyyah) to perform Hajj.
  2. Standing at Arafat (Wuquf): Spending the afternoon of the 9th day of Dhu al-Hijjah at the plain of Arafat, praying and repenting, which is considered the most crucial part of Hajj.
  3. Tawaf: Circumambulating the Kaaba seven times in a counterclockwise direction as an act of worship.
  4. Sa’i: Walking seven times between the hills of Safa and Marwah, commemorating Hagar’s search for water for her son Ishmael.
  5. Halq or Taqsir: Shaving or trimming the hair to symbolize renewal and submission to Allah.

Performing these pillars correctly is vital for the acceptance of Hajj. Beyond these, there are other rituals and acts of worship that complement the pilgrimage experience.
